Platinum/Palladium Printing
In the early years of the current century, I printed my photographic work primarily by contact printing large format digital negatives under ultraviolet light onto rag watercolor paper coated with a photosensitive pt/pd solution. Negatives digitally prepared with photographic software and printed onto transparent digital film allow the printer to compensate for the non linear grayscale deposition of photosensitive materials by preparing specific tonal adjustment curves for each variety of paper. This adjustment obviates the need to dodge and burn as with conventional photographic printing from photographic film. After years of experimentation, I also developed a method of printing in Pt/Pd on wood surfaces, often lightened with bleaching, white washing or gesso coating.
